Making Moves

For young disabled people thinking about a place of their own. We work at whatever pace suits you, from first questions through to keys in your hand.

What Making Moves is

Moving into a place of your own is a big step for anyone. If you are a young disabled person, there is an extra layer of forms, assessments and jargon in the way, and it is hard to know where to even start. Making Moves gives you one person — a broker — who works through all of it with you.

That might mean working out what kind of housing would actually suit you, applying for the right things in the right order, or sitting alongside you and your family while you weigh up the options. There is no deadline and no pressure. Some people take months, some take years, and both are fine.

Who it is for

Young disabled people anywhere in Scotland who are thinking about living more independently — whether that is a first move out of the family home, or a move to somewhere that works better. Parents, carers and siblings are very welcome in the conversation, at whatever level feels right to you.

Broker quote slot

Every service page carries a short quote from the broker who runs it, with their portrait. The Hospital Housing Clinic page shows this filled in with Eve Young's real words.

Working with your team

Most people planning a first move already have people around them: family, a social worker, a support provider, sometimes an occupational therapist. We work alongside whoever you want in the room, at the pace you set.

A note on this template

Services are not like-for-like, so every section below is an optional block that can be switched on, off or reordered per service. Making Moves is shown here; the Hospital Housing Clinic page shows the same template carrying a very different structure, and Military Matters will add its own blocks for Armed Forces housing, Support for Veterans to Buy, and veterans housing providers.

Who we deliver this with

Common questions

No. Like everything we do, Making Moves is completely free, however long you work with us.

Not at all. "I think I might want my own place one day" is plenty. Working out what you want is part of what we do together.

Yes, as much or as little as you would like. Some people bring family to every conversation, some prefer to do it themselves. You set the level.

Client story
Our disabled daughter has officially purchased her own house and collected the keys. We could not have done this without Housing Options Scotland — the dedicated Making Moves service has been, quite frankly, transformative for our family.
